[There is the sound of buttons being a bit haphazardly mashed, and some slight shuffling. Eventually, there is a quiet 'oh', and the video flickers to life and reveals a handsome young man, dressed in a tight-fitting t-shirt and sweat pants.]

Sorry, folks, I'm still trying to figure out how things work around here. [He gives a little sheepish smile and ducks his head, before glancing back to the camera.] Uh. Hello, I'm Captain Steve Rogers. Some of you might know me as Captain America. I'm from Brooklyn, New York, and I was told that you could use my help up here.

There's not -- a lot for me to do at home right now, so here I am. [A little pause.] Though if anyone could catch me up on -- current events, back home, it'd be appreciated.

Well, the United States came out of the Second World War as the primary superpower on Earth, and for most of the 20th century was involved in a Cold War with the Soviet Union. There was a break up of the colonialism ideology of past generations, so a lot of former colonies of European powers began to declare independence. We went to war in Korea to stop the communists from overrunning the country, did basically the same thing in Vietnam, the Civil Rights movement helped raise awareness about and stop racial discrimination, especially in the south, the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 brought us all closer to nuclear devastation than we've basically ever been since then, the US sent astronauts to the moon in 1969, and the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.

Since then, the focus of a lot of the conflict in the world has been the Middle East. After World War Two, Israel was established as an independent nation in land that used to belong to Palestine, which has caused a lot of problems, and some extremist groups have attacked the United States, Great Britain and other nations because they feel that their culture is under thread by western society. We've been involved in a lengthy military campaign in Iraq and Afghanistan basically since a group called Al Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington back in 2001.

We've made some pretty impressive scientific achievements. In the 50's, people started developing computers to help handle various tasks, and since the 90's people have been able to communicate with each other all over the world, basically instantly, thanks to the internet. People can use computers to do basically anything. People have become pretty conscious of the effect humans are having on the natural environment and are working on developing ways to conserve and recycle resources, as well as protecting natural environments and species that have been threatened by human encroachment. [And kind of as an afterthought:] The Red Sox won the World Series in 2004.

There are books in the library that can probably do a better job than I could, if you're interested in anything more thorough.

[Dick smiles a little sheepishly.] They've got a lot of good stuff in there. You might be able to find one that has a more thorough version of your universe's history, too.

[Switching filters, because lol paranoia runs in the family and all. :c] Compared to different Earths, I guess the biggest difference is we have superheroes, metahumans, magic and we've made contact with a couple different alien species.

It's fine. I guess it's what makes us unique.

Well, a couple superhero teams, some individual heroes, a decent leg up on technology and health care compared to some of the other worlds we've visited... I don't know. It's home. I'd probably have some affection for it even if it was kind of a mess.
