....So, uh -- that was a flood. Huh. Thanks, Dick, for the clothes. I'll return them as soon as I've got 'em clean. [Yes, he's all back to normal size now.]
Anyway. To anyone who I might've said hello to, hi again. Properly, this time -- I'm Captain Steve Rogers. Nice to have you aboard the barge.
[Private to Agent Peggy Carter:]
I'm not... sure if this is going to work right, but -- hi, Peggy. [A slight pause, and then there's a small, slightly embarrassed, slightly nervous smile appearing on his face.]
I'm sorry about -- uh, well. Not knowing you. Apparently floods do that. But I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't happen again. We should talk, in any case, and I'm pretty sure I owe you a dance, if you don't mind it being a bit delayed.

Date: 2012-06-16 11:52 pm (UTC)[He sounds stressed. Looks stressed. And also vaguely... pissed.]
And, uh. Sorry about... [A dismissive wave of his hand meant to say the flood, how much of an asshole I was, yada yada]
Date: 2012-06-16 11:55 pm (UTC)...What's up?
Date: 2012-06-16 11:59 pm (UTC)My dad. This is, by the way, the one and only time I'll ever be open to talking about him, so take advantage of it, old man.
Tell me about Howard Stark as you knew him.
Date: 2012-06-17 12:10 am (UTC)Well -- you're a lot like him, actually, sometimes. Even if you don't realize it. I mean, just -- in the way you act around people. He did that too, at least in public and all. He was a good fella to drink with, even though I -- well, can't, but. [A little shrug.]
He wanted to help serve his country, protect his home, same as the rest of us did. He was real good at what he did, even if it wasn't quite as good as you are. I think -- besides Peggy and Erskine, he was one of the first people to accept me for -- what I could do. What I wanted to do. He also followed rules about as well as I did.
Date: 2012-06-17 12:15 am (UTC)[He's leaning forward, folding his hands in front of his face, hiding his mouth as he rests against them. He just... looks carefully thoughtful]
Right, so. Same shit I've always heard about him. Me being my father's son in just about every way possible. [There's a... pretty heavy pause, there]
What do you know about nuclear bombs? [No, he doesn't know about Manhattan. He's talking about something else]
Date: 2012-06-17 12:20 am (UTC)[Steve leans back a bit, for his part, leaning up against the wall of his room.]
Not a lot. Just -- what I've read, some pictures. I know what they're capable of.
Date: 2012-06-17 12:27 am (UTC)[He's just staring at a point over the top of his communicator, hands still folded in front of his mouth]
Dad took them from being things that'd level a block to what they are now.
Date: 2012-06-17 12:51 am (UTC)[And Steve bites his lip thoughtfully.]
Your dad was -- just trying to protect his country. We all were. I'm sure he thought it was best at the time.
Date: 2012-06-17 02:27 am (UTC)Not to mention that started an arms race that led to a crap ton more people dying.
[He almost jerks back from the communicator as he sinks back in his chair, too stiff and tense for the movement to be smooth]
Given what you know, and what I've told you. Do you think he'd ever have gotten to the point where supplying our weapons to terrorists in order to make more money would have been his idea?
Seems pretty low key, given how much war profiteering we've pretty rightfully been accused of doing.

Date: 2012-06-17 07:56 am (UTC)[There's the slightest hint of relief in his voice, though. Just barely there.]
Willing to risk your life on that, soldier?

Date: 2012-06-17 05:13 pm (UTC)[And that? ... Is all she wrote. Especially on this subject.]
And apparently what. Five feet and 90 pounds? It's one thing to see a picture, and another to see it in action. Did you even eat as a- wait. In your twenties in the forties. Meaning you were a kid in the thirties. Right.
[Even he's not bad enough to make a Great Depression joke in full.]

Date: 2012-06-17 07:00 pm (UTC)[He's pushing up out of his chair, then, grabbing his communicator]
Can you meet me in ten? Workout room, since you obviously know where that is.
I have some questions about that whole alien invasion thing.
Date: 2012-06-17 07:16 pm (UTC)[A little shrug, and then he's nodding and standing.]
Sure, I guess.
Date: 2012-06-17 07:56 pm (UTC)[He's out of his room, now, moving down the hallway.]
Great. I'll meet you there.
[So long as he doesn't see you pick up that notepad :| ]
Date: 2012-06-18 12:10 am (UTC)[And he will, of course, be grabbing that notepad, sticking it in his pocket, and heading to meet Tony.]
Date: 2012-06-19 05:49 am (UTC)He knows how to adjust a plan on the fly.]
Welcome.
Actually, on second thought, come up to my room. I need to finish up on something.
[Namely this smoke bomb he's making out of a few smuggled out lunchroom cleaning products]
